Megan Hildebrandt
Megan Hildebrandt's painting of Mary Pickersgill is being featured today at a group show called The Big Show at the Creative Alliance at the Patterson. More information about this exhibition which takes place from June 27 to July 26, 2008 can be found athttp://www.creativealliance.org/events/eventItem1427.html. She was featured also in an article in the Baltimore Sun.
Also Ms. Hildebrandt has garnered a good reputation as a performance artist earlier this year at the 5th Annual Transmodern Festival in Baltimore during April 2008. Her project entitled "Blue Light Special" was a live piece about the threats created by the increased surveillance in today's post-Patriot Act world. Her proposal went as follows: "Project Name: Blue Light Special Project Description:
"The Blinking Blue Light will make things better, not worse.
The Blinking Blue Light will know and see everything.
The Blinking Blue Light will show the pedestrians it is watching.
The Blinking Blue Light will be popular with many pedestrians.
The Blinking Blue Light will be a "top-of-the-line high-tech" blue beacon.
The Blinking Blue Light will capture pedestrians with its electric eyes.
The Blinking Blue Light will beautify and improve the neighborhood.
The Blinking Blue Light will keep the street awash with light and the pedestrians awake.
The Blinking Blue Light will blink in locations of "high activity" in the Transmodern Radius to assure pedestrians of their protection, and suspicious persons that they are on camera. The Blinking Blue light will create a feeling of safety, security, and warmth as it films and monitors Transmodern Tourists.
Please Note: In the long term, the Blinking Blue Light might not to engender a sense of safety."
A sketch for this project proposal can be found here. Apparently, the artist ended up with some press exposure through the Baltimore Sun and the resulting publicity can be found here.

Dealing with the current political situation in the context of the religious interpretation of the end of the world, Mr. Glass re-examines various concepts from the Bible in a new and fresh contemporary look which infuses the subject with the weight of a Caravaggio and the glossy brilliance of a Jeff Wall photograph.
Mr. Glass plans to graduate with his BFA from Weber State University located in Odgen, Utah.
